    My Chinese Pen Pal's Special Birthday Gift
    Hi! My name is Emma and I'm 10 years old. I'm in the 5th grade at Oakwood Elementary School. For the last year, I've had a pen pal named Mei who lives in Beijing, China. Having a pen pal from another country has been so much fun! We write letters back and forth every few weeks telling each other about our daily lives, families, hobbies, and more.
    Mei just turned 11 years old a few days ago on April 1st. In one of her recent letters, she mentioned her birthday was coming up. I really wanted to send her a special gift for her birthday to celebrate turning 11. But I didn't just want to send her any ordinary gift. Since Mei lives so far away in China, I thought it would be really cool to pick out a gift that had special meaning and showed her something about Chinese culture and traditions.
