21.(6分)A 90-year-old may not be typical for a show's narrator(解说员),but without the voice of English broadcaster Sir David Attenborough, one of the most successful new shows on television just wouldn't be the same.
BBC's Planet EarthⅡis getting good ratings in the United Kingdom. And Sir David, the man behind the show's voice, describes it as "greatly pleasing".The naturalist is the father of nature documentaries(纪录片),with a television career that started in 1950.Since then, the London-born broadcaster has traveled the world intent on sharing his discoveries through the television in new ways.
Ever since his first wildlife documentary series,1954's Zoo Quest,Sir David's voice has become synonymous(同义)with environmental protection.Concerned with how humans are harming the pl
anet,he attempts to educate viewers on the threats and dangers that are present today. He's used his profile to raise important issues like global
warming,deforestation,climate change and overpopulation.
"We can't go on increasing at the rate human beings are increasing forever, because the Earth is finite(有限)and you can't put infinity into something that is finite,"he told The Independent two years ago."So if we don't do something about it then the world will do something about it."
And after almost 30 years of nature-based programming,Sir David's efforts to protect wildlife and the environment have not gone unnoticed. His work has been significant in reconnecting an increasingly disconnected human population with the environment of the planet that we not only come from but also rely on.

D.Human population should stop increasing.
4、Which of the following best describes Sir David according to the text?
A.Optimistic. B.Ambitious.
C.Generous. D.Devoted.
22.(8分)Two recent studies have found that punishment is not the best way to influence behavior. One showed that adults are much more cooperative if they work in a system based on rewards. Researchers at Harvard University in the United States and the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden did the study.
They had about two hundred college students play a version of the game known as the Prisoner’s Dilemma. The game is based on the tension between the interests of an individual and a group. The students played in groups of four. Each player could win points for the group, so they would all gain equally. But each player could also reward or punish each of the other three players. Harvard researcher David Rand says the most successful behavior proved to be cooperation. The groups that rewarded the most earned about twice as much in the game as the groups that rewarded the least. And the more a group punished itself, the lower its earnings. The study appeared last month in the journal Science.
The other study involved children. It was presented last month in California at a conference on violence and
abuse(虐待). Researchers used intelligence tests given to two groups. More than eight hundred children were aged two to four the first time they were tested. More than seven hundred children were aged five to nine. The two groups were retested four years later, and the study compared the results with the first test. Both groups contained children whose parents used physical punishment and children whose parents did not.
The study says the IQs of the younger children who were not spanked were five points higher than those who were. In the older group, the difference was almost three points. The more they are spanked, the slower their mental development.
1、What do we know about the second study?
A.Children's IQs have much to do with physical punishment.
B.The study is about violence and cooperation of children.
C.The children tested were divided into groups of four.
D.Children's mental development only relies on their IQs.
2、What does the underlined word “spanked” refer to?
A.punished B.blamed
C.tested D.praised
3、What might be the best title for the text?
A.The Best Way to Correct Misbehavior
B.Punishment Is the Best Way of Education
C.Cooperation Is the Most Successful Behavior
D.Punishment or Reward: Which Works Better on Behavior?
4、Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?英雄联盟怎么玩
A.Punishment is the best way to influence bad behaviors.
B.The participants in the first study have the right to reward or punish others in the group.
C.the younger children have a higher IQ because of their parents’ educational level.
D.Adults are much more cooperative than children.
23.(8分)Lack of inexpensive, reliable energy delivery is one of the chief barriers to growth and development in sub-Saharan Africa. Nearly seventy percent of people living in the region lack access to electricity, forcing them to spend significant amounts of their income on costly and unhealthy forms of energy such as diesel (柴油) fuel to run generators and kerosene (煤油) for lanterns.
But if there is one thing Africa is not lacking, it is sunshine. And that means a lot; indeed, for some of the world’s poorest people, it makes all the difference in the world.
A little more than a year ago, Power Africa — a U.S. Government initiative (倡议) coordinated by the U. S. Agency for International Development, or USAID —and Power Africa’s partners, the United Kingdom Department for International Development, Shell Foundation, and the African Development Bank, started the Scaling Off-Grid Energy Grand Challenge for Development, with a focus on pay-as-you-go solar home systems. The Challenge’s goal is to provide 20 million off-grid (离网) househol
ds in sub-Saharan Africa with clean, affordable electricity by 2030. So far, the Challenge has made 40-plus investments in early-stage, off-grid energy companies, which are expected to result in some 4.8 million new electrical connections.
One reason for the success of the start-up companies that have won grants (资助) from the Challenge is the fact that the cost of solar technology is falling fast, so it is within the means of those who live away from traditional power grids. And thanks to the new system of mobile money and pay-as-you-go financing, they can purchase the solar
power-generating equipment they need and pay for it in daily installments (分期付款) from their telephones, for as little as 15 cents a day.
Thanks to these technological and financial innovations (创新), many people are getting electricity for the first time every day. In these newly-electrified communities, businesses can boom, clinics can safely store vaccines and students may study long after dark. Indeed, access to clean and reliable electricity can enable entire communities to escape the cycle of extreme poverty.
