I don’t agree that universities shouldaccept equal numbers of male and female students in every subject, because it cannot be reached in reality.

But universities should take actions togive equal rights for both men and women, especially in typical majors which have a big percentage difference in two genders.

First, let’s talk about the reasons. Different subject has different characters. In traditional ideas, some majors are not suitable for men or women.
The majors that don’t suitable for women:civil engineering, architecture, mechanism, vehicle engineering and so on. The reason is about tough working conditions, hard labor and working overtime. They are all bad for skins and make women look old. Also the working atmosphere is full of men, so it is not convenient for women.
The majors that don’t suitable for men:nursing, accounting, ancient Chinese and so on. These majors are full of trifles which cannot show masculinity and have bad payment. Besides, working atmosphere is full of women, so it is not convenient for men.
So admitting the difference is right. But if he or she has interest in one major, they can take it regardless of gender. They bare the uncomfortable life and they can achieve some valuable things too. For example, Zaha Hadid, Iraqi-born British architect known for her radical deconstructivist designs, liked to play with furniture since young. And architecture was her interest, and she usually put more than 15 hours a day on it. She finally became worldwide famous architect which women were thought not suitable for.

Most professors choose students by GPA, research experience, creativity and so on. But sometimes it is with the gender. Especially in China, there are more girls than boys who want to have a master or PhD degree, but some professors like to enroll boys.
So the universities can do something to balance it. It is better to clear the standards for a certain major. And universities can allow outside donations from companies or individuals to set up scholarship for a particularly gender. It can connect research and job hunting more closely which is fairer. And famous and successful people can help and educate the future colleagues in the same major.

In conclusion, men and women are equal but the universities should have their freedom to choose who to be enrolled. And students should think over to choose their major regardless of gender. Universities should bring about good policies to encourage the justice as well.
