    My Life As A Sixth Grader
    Last year was my sixth grade year of elementary school. So many things happened that made it a year I'll never forget! At the start of the school year, I was really nervous. I had attended the same school with the same friends since kindergarten, but now we were the oldest kids and the leaders of the whole elementary school. It was exciting but scary too!
    The first few weeks were all about getting used to having multiple teachers instead of just one like in the past years. We switched classes for different subjects like math, reading, science and social studies. At first it was confusing going from room to room carrying my books and supplies, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly.
    My favorite classes were reading and social studies. In reading, we got to read lots of cool novels and stories from different authors. One book I loved was called "Holes" - it was about this kid who got sent to a camp in the desert to dig holes as punishment. But there was a big
mystery and adventure involved too. For social studies, we learned all about ancient civilizations like Rome, Greece, Egypt and China. I thought the mythology and legends from those cultures were so fascinating.
    Science class was probably my least favorite. We had so many hands-on experiments to do, which was fun, but there were a lot of notes to take and topics to memorize too. Physics, chemistry, biology - my brain got overloaded sometimes! At least we got to dissect a frog, which was pretty cool even though it smelled gross.
    The toughest class for me was definitely math. I just never seemed to fully understand all those concepts with fractions, decimals, percentages and algebra. Luckily, my teacher Mr. Wells was very patient and would work examples with me one-on-one when I was struggling. He helped me realize that doing practice problems over and over was key. Even if I didn't love math, I did appreciate learning those critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
    In addition to my classes, I also stayed pretty busy with extracurricular activities. I was o
n the soccer team in the fall and the track team in the spring. Soccer season was a blast - we made it all the way to the championship game! Even though we ended up losing, it was an awesome experience. I got to play striker and scored a bunch of goals throughout the season.
    For track, I focused on running long distance events like the 1600m and 3200m. All that training and running lap after lap really helped get me into great shape. My proudest accomplishment was setting a new school record in the 3200m race at the city meet. I'll never forget that feeling of euphoria as I crossed the finish line, knowing I had given it my absolute all.
    When I wasn't playing sports, a lot of my free time was spent hanging out with my friends. We loved riding our bikes around the neighborhood, having sleepovers, and just goofing off being kids. Seems like every weekend there were birthday parties or school dances to go to. Sixth grade was also the first year we were allowed to go to the mall and movies without parent chaperones - we felt so independent!
    Of course, it wasn't all fun and games. There was a ton of schoolwork, projects and studying to stay on top of. I'll never forget the huge roller coaster model we had to build for science class using just paper, straws, tape and glue. Or the 10-page research paper on ancient Rome we had to write for social studies. Don't even get me started on the homework - it felt like there was some to do every night.
    Looking back, sixth grade was definitely a rollercoaster of challenges and rewards. I changed so much as a person over that one year. I became more responsible, independent and confident in my abilities. I made incredible memories with friends. And most importantly, I prepared myself well for the transition to middle school and that whole new world of being a teenager.
    Sixth grade shaped me into who I am today. It laid the foundation for everything that came after - the highs and lows, successes and failures, lessons and growth experiences. While parts of it were extremely difficult, it was all part of the amazing adventure of conquering my last year of elementary school. I'll be forever grateful for those times and the person they helped me become.
