历史沿革
我们现在来到的是我国著名的旅游疗养胜地----八大关。为什么这里被称为八大关呢？是因为上个世纪三十年代初，青岛市政府规划建设湛山特别区域时，修筑了八条以我国著名关隘命名的道路，因此命
名为“八大关”。后来又增添了两条，形成了十条以关隘命名的道路为主要街道的景区，但习惯上人仍然称它为“八大关”。这十条道路分别是韶关路、嘉峪关路、山海关路、武胜关路、函谷关路、正阳关路、临淮关路、宁武关路、紫荆关路和居庸关路。横向的有七条，纵向的有三条。
20世纪20年代以来，全国各地陆续有人来到八大关购地建
房，外国驻青岛领事馆及侨居在青岛的外国人亦在此建造别墅住宅，形成了风格各异、绚丽多彩的别墅，共计300余座建筑。据统计，景区内的建筑中代表了俄德英法24个国家的建筑风格，故有“万国建筑博览会”的美誉。
八大关街道绿地是最吸引游人的景观之一。自20世纪60年代起，青岛市政府对景区内各条马路街道树木进行了有计划的改造。景区内每条道路都有一个特殊的树种为代表，如韶关路的碧桃、山海关路的法国梧桐、紫荆关路的雪松等，形成了四季有特，路路花不同的景观特。
