新高考英语试题的命题以考查学生核心素养为中心，以语篇话题为引领，不断创设命题的新情境，避免学生形成定式思维，屏蔽教师让学生背模板的死板应试思维和方法。命题情境关注学生健康成长，鼓励学生参与社会实际活动，并将所学知识和社会实践相结合，进而培养学生的实践能力和核心素养。
本试卷中的应用文写作“认识我们身边的植物”活动就是一个很好的典例，各地模拟题以“劳动”为情境命题比比皆是，但此命题者以社会活动为情境，把学科知识和实践结合起来使命题别出心裁，需要考生在考场上发挥自己的创新思维，重新组织素材，这正是能力的体现。
2023年高考命题中“弘扬优秀传统文化，用英语讲好中国故事”依然是很重要的话题，预测2023年新高考地区将以语法填空和应用文写作的形式进行考查，语法填空的可能性较大，难度中等偏下，例如本卷语法填空。
