On Students Selecting Lecturers
Nowadays students in some universities are entitled to the choice on lecturers for some courses. This offers students a more flexible and efficient way of learning.
There are several factors when choosing a lecturer. To begin with, a wide academic background should be preferred, since a learned teacher will greatly enlarge his/her students" scope of knowledge in delivering his/her lessons. Secondly, a teacher with a liberal teaching style is desirable, because this kind of teacher will create a relaxed and pleasant classroom atmosphere, thus making learning interesting. Last but not least, the personality of the lecturer should be paid attention to when choosing a lecturer.
This campus practice can definitely urge students to take an active part in study and thus pour more efforts and interest in their learning. And it will also push teachers to improve their teaching quality. Every coin has two sides, so it can inevitably bring some side-effects. For example, some top lecturers will be ignored for not pleasing the students.

The quality of patience goes a long way toward your goal of creating a more peaceful and loving self. The more patient you are, the more accepting you will be of what life is, rather than insisting that life be exactly as you would like it to be. Without patience, life is extremely frustrating. You are easily annoyed, bothered, and irritated. Patience adds a dimension of ease and acceptance to your life. It"s essential for inner peace. Becoming more patient involves opening your heart to the present moment, even if you don"t like it. If you are stuck in a traffic jam, late for an appointment, being patient would mean keeping yourself from building a mental snowball before your thinking get out of hand and gently reminding yourself to relax. It might also be a good time to breathe as well as an opportunity to remind yourself that, in the bigger scheme of things, being late is "small stuff".
Patience is a quality of heart that can be greatly enhanced with deliberate practice. An effective way that I have found to deepen my own patience is to create actual practice periods—periods of time that I set up in my mind to practice the art of patience. Life itself becomes a classroom, and the curriculum is patience. You can start with as little as five minutes and build up your capacity for patience over time. What you"ll discover is truly amazing. Your intention to be patient, especially if you know it"s only for a short while, immediately strengthens your capacity for patience. Patience is one of those special qualities where success feeds on itself. Once you reach little milestone (里程碑)—five minutes of successful patience—you"ll begin to see that you do indeed have the capacity to be patient, even for longer periods of time. Over time, you may even become a patient person.
Being patient will help you to keep your perspective. You"ll see even a difficult situation, say your present challenge, isn"t "life or death" but simply a minor obstacle that must be dealt with. Without patience, the same scenario can become a major emergency complete with yelling, frustration, hurt feelings, and high blood pressure.(分数:10.00)

(1).In the first paragraph, the expression "building a mental snowball" can be best replaced by ______.(分数:2.00)
A.imagining a big snowball
B.awaiting a result calmly
C.taking a deep breath
D.losing your patience √
(2).The main idea of the first paragraph is that ______.(分数:2.00)
A.it takes a long time to cultivate patience
B.patience is very important for us √
C.patience is essential for inner peace
D.being late is "small stuff"
大有帮助”,并不是“花长时间”的意思,因此,选项B为正确选项,而选项A对go a long way toward理解错误。
(3).It"s implied in the second paragraph that ______.(分数:2.00)
A.the quality of patience is very hard to cultivate
B.patience should become a school course
&u"ll get more than expected from practicing patience √
D.the quality of patience will lead you to success
(4).People without patience will treat the challenge as ______.(分数:2.00)
A.a minor thing
B.a matter of life or death √
C.the small stuff
D.a great chance
(5).The purpose of this passage is to ______.(分数:2.00)
A.persuade people to be more patient √
&ll how to practice patience
C.list the advantages of patience
D.state the importance of patience

Health experts have called adolescents to avoid salty diets, warning that such diets were capable of causing hypertension (高血压), as they grow older. The experts, who spoke in Lagos during cardiovascular (心血管的) grass root programme organised by Chike Okoli Foundation in collaboration with Lagos State Ministry of Education for over 1,000 senior s
econdary students (SSS) of Dairy Farm Senior Secondary School, Lagos, also urged adolescents to be mindful of their lifestyles as whatever they do today have future implications on their heart.
The grass root programme is an annual event aimed to educate, create awareness and screen students in secondary school of heart related diseases in memory of Chike Okoli, who died at the age of 25 of cardiovascular disease. This year, the programme is targeting over 10,000 students in Lagos public schools.
Public health physician and resident doctor at the university of Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Dr Idiakhoa Iyare, who was one of the guest lecturers for the programme, said the importance of the cardiovascular grass root programme could not be over emphasised as exposing young ones to implications of their lifestyles would save them from deaths and sufferings that could result from future cardiovascular diseases. "If we call hypertension a silent killer, it means that it is going to be silent for a long time," Iyare said. "But if we could make the children get aware earlier and start focusing on healthy ways of living while they are much younger, it would be easier for them to modify their ha

Programme Coordinator of Chike Okoli Foundation, Mrs. Beaty Alfred, said that the programme was important to raise the health status of students in Lagos schools because "we believe that they are ignorant of the implications of some of their lifestyles," adding that "we want to catch them young."
The students were taken through series of lectures on the causes, implications and how to avoid hypertension by various experts from LUTH. Blood pressures of the students were also measured.
Iyare added that hypertension is different from high blood pressure, which could arise from increased activities. The public health physician said: "Hypertension is a persistently elevated blood pressure. That means that the blood pressure is greater than 140-millimetre mercury systolic blood pressure and greater than 90-millimetre mercury diastolic blood pressure."(分数:71.00)
