My Super Awesome English Test Adventure!
Hey there! Today I'm going to tell you all about the crazy English test I had to take for my Science and Technology degree at Nanchang University. It was like nothing I'd ever experienced before!
It all started when my mom woke me up at the crack of dawn. I was so sleepy, but she said I had to get ready for my big important test. I groaned and tried to pull the covers back over my head, but mom insisted. "This test could decide your whole future!" she said sternly. Future smooture, I just wanted to sleep in!
But I dragged myself out of my cozy bed and got ready. I put on my lucky Spider-Man shirt
and my comfiest jeans. I figured if I had to take some big dumb test, I might as well be really comfortable doing it. For breakfast, I had a huge stack of chocolate chip pancakes to give me lots of energy. YUM!
The test was held at the university in this massive room packed with row after row of desks. It reminded me of the cafeteria at school, but without the food and fun. When I walked in, a very serious-looking lady pointed me to a desk right up front. I gulped. Did she have to pick the spot where everyone behind me could see if I drooled on the test or something?
After what felt like forever, the instructor finally handed out the test booklets. They were super thick - like tiny novels! I flipped through it and my jaw dropped. Reading passages, grammar sections, it just kept going and going. How was I supposed to finish this whole thing?
The instructor cleared her throat loudly. "You w!" she boomed into the microphone. I shook off my nerves, took a deep breath, and started reading the first passag
e.
Well, I'll admit some of those reading passages were pretty interesting. There was one about how rubber bands are made that I thought was kind of cool. And another about the history of lollipops - who knew candy could be so fascinating? My personal favorite though was the story about the talking dog who rescued a whole family from a fire. I kind of wanted to pet that dog!
After getting through all those readings, I had to answer a bajillion questions about them. Thank goodness I've gotten really good at filling in bubbles with a No. 2 pencil at school! I tried to stay positive and upbeat, just like my third grade teacher always tells me to. Whenever I started feeling frustrated, I'd just doodle a tiny robot or rocket ship in the margins to get my mind off the stress.
Next up was the grammar section - tenses, verb agreement, sentence structures. Blech! I've never been a big fan of picking apart sentences like that. I just want to talk and write and have fun with words, you know? Some of those questions went right over my head. Fo
r those, I just closed my eyes and filled in a bubble at random. Hey, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, right?
After grammarpalooza was the worst part - essays! We had to write a whole bunch of them about all different topics. One was comparing and contrasting food from different countries. As much as Iloooove eating, I wasn't sure what to say besides "Mmm, tacos are tasty!" I did my best though.
Another essay asked us to explain a simple scientific process, like how a lamp works or something. I racked my brain, then decided to just write about how we digest food since I know a ton about that from seeing those weird body videos in science class. I sure hope vividly describing burps and farts was OK!
The last essay really stumped me though. We had to discuss potential solutions for climate change. I struggled to write more than a few sentences about recycling plastic and riding bikes instead of driving. Saving the planet is hard!

Finally, after hours of flipping pages, filling in bubbles, and writing 'til my hand cramped, the instructor announced we could stop. I weakly raised my pencil in the air in triumph. My brain felt like a piece of used chewing gum!
On the long walk home, I started wondering how I did on that monster of a test. I answered some parts OK, but plenty stumped me too. Would I pass and get my Science and Technology degree? Or would I have to become a hobo boxcar kid and ride the rails for the rest of my life? The uncertainty made my tummy do somersaults.
When I got home, Mom could see my worried look. She pulled me in for a big hug and said "No matter what your score is, I'm so proud of you for trying your best and not giving up." That made me feel a million times better. Maybe this test didn't go perfectly, but at least I gave it my all like a total champ!
