东西方教育制度结合的典范——新加坡教育
新加坡以前一直是英国的殖民地，新加坡的教育全盘实行英国的教育制度。华人在新加坡占77%左右，东西方文化交融造就了新加坡的教育。
东方教育注重传授知识，以考试成绩排名，学生死记硬背的成分多。而西方教育注重培养学生的动手动脑能力，给学生留有思考、发挥和创造的较大空间。而新加坡的教育将东西方的两种教育进行结合，吸取各自的一些东西，试图建立一种东西方融合的教育制度。
新加坡的教学方式十分灵活，完全根据教学的内容和学生的实际，充分尊重学生的个体差异，关注学生的兴趣特长，食堂、操场、动物园等只要学生喜欢，都可以成为学生学习的课堂；流行歌曲、电影、热门新闻等，只要学生感兴趣，都可以成为学生学习的内容；站着、坐着，甚至趴着，只要学生认为这样可以提高学习效率，都可以成为学习的一种方式。总之，新加坡的课堂和教学的内容对学生没有过多的约束和限制，给与学生很大的自由空间。
学生可以根据自己的意愿参加各种兴趣小组，并且今后可以往这些方向发展。
和中国的基础教育相类似，新加坡的基本学制是六年小学和四年中学，但这个学制是有伸缩的。
